In Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) students study two lessons of French and two lessons of German. For a small minority of students, extra literacy lessons are provided in place of some or all of the foreign language lessons.
In French, the Studio course is followed. A log-in to the on-line activities is provided which enables students to access exercises from the course book outside of the lessons.
In German, the Echo Express course is followed.
Across both languages, staff create exciting, varied and interactive lessons that allow students to develop across the four main skill areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. In Year 9, students get to discuss the role of languages in the workplace and get the chance to meet with local businesses that use foreign languages on a daily basis.
In the spring term of Year 9, students make their KS4 Options choices. Students can opt to continue with either or both of their languages or cease their foreign language studies at the end of Year 9.
