Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

We are now well into the new term with our Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and have lots going on. We had a very successful year last year with many of the students going on to complete the award.

This year we have 16 students undertaking the Bronze Award and 9 doing their Silver Award.

We have been meeting once a fortnight and have already covered the essentials of map and compass skills. On Saturday 19th November 2016 and Sunday 20th November 2016 we will embark on our training mornings with the groups. They will be walking a circular route from Needham Market to Darmsden putting their new-found skills into practice. It was very cold and wet last year so we will be hoping the weather treats us better this time around!

During the course of the year we will be learning First Aid, camp craft, cooking on a portable stove, what to do in an emergency situation and lots more.

Our expeditions are scheduled for: -

Bronze

Practice Expedition – Saturday 29th April 2017 - Sunday 30th April 2017

Qualifying Expedition – Saturday 2nd July 2017 - Sunday 3rd July 2017

Silver

Qualifying Expedition – Friday 14th July 2017 - Sunday 16th July 2017

We meet every other Thursday after school for 50 minutes - it is still not too late to join!
